October is a Great Month to Play Golf in Ohio

October is one of my favorite months to play golf in Ohio. The brightly colored leaves contrast the verdant green grass to create pleasing vista to the eye. The weather is normally cooler and accommodates a light sweater or jacket.

With a full summer of preparation and less play after Labor Day, courses are usually in excellent shape in October. Plus, fewer golfers make tee times more available and rounds can be finished at a much quicker pace, due to less traffic on the course.

There is a lot to like about Fall Golf in Ohio.

In this issue we are pleased to announce the changes being made to historic Inverness Club. Designer Andrew Green was contracted to bring Inverness into the 21st Century and make it a challenge for today’s long hitters and make it more enjoyable for the membership.

They are doing everything right to attract another major championship to Northwest Ohio.

If you call yourself a Golfaholic, but are not familiar with the name, Renee’ Powell, you should be ashamed. Ms. Powell is from East Canton’s Clearview Golf Club. The same club her father William designed and built. Powell has been a trendsetter and ambassador for the game of golf her entire life, while at the same time bucking social norms and discrimination.

Hers is one of the best stories in golf over the past 50 years.

One of my favorite old golf haunts, Lincoln Hills celebrated its 90th anniversary last month and officially opened its new 4-hole Loop.

Short courses are becoming more prevalent in today’s golf consciousness. Its great to see a course in Ohio, with a long history, on the cutting edge of the modern trend and ready to race headlong into the future.

Finally, Golf Cart Safety should be a concern for all golfers. Over 15,000 golf cart accidents require medical attention every year. Take a few minutes to read our tips and be safe out there.
