Ohioan Bob Lewis Inducted into National Senior Amateur Hall of Fame By Fred Altvater Bob Lewis’ mother taught him the game of golf, but in high school, he was a stand- out athlete in baseball and football. By the time college rolled around, he dedicated himself to golf and competed for Rollins College in Florida. Golf turned out to be a good choice. He has had a full life in the game, with his latest accomplishment being enshrined into the National Senior Amateur Hall of Fame in June. After winning the 1968 Ohio Amateur, he tried professional GOLF FOR ÚVE YEARS NOTCHING one professional win. Being a tour professional did not suit him and he regained his amateur status in 1978. Since then, Lewis has been one of the most dominant amateur golfers of his era. (E ÚNISHED RUNNER UP AT the 1980 U.S. Amateur to Hal Sutton, as well as, the 1981 and 1984 U.S. Mid- Amateurs. He was a member of four con- secutive winning U.S. Walker Cup teams, 1981-1987. He competed for the U.S. on the victorious 1982 Eisenhower Trophy team, as well as, the 1986 team that ÚNISHED SECOND He was medalist of the 1984 U.S. Mid-Am and QUALIÚED for three U.S. Opens, 1978, 1983 and 1986.
