Golf Rules: For every birdie made, the average golfer must immediately double bogey the next hole to maintain equilibrium within the universe. Welcome to the March Issue of Ohio Golf Journal. We are only a couple weeks away from the annual renewal of the passage of Spring, the Masters Tournament. A relatively new tradition of Masters week is the Finals of the Drive, Chip & Putt (DCP) competition that is held on Sunday, prior to the start of the tournament. This issue has information about registering your little golfer for the 2019 DCP qualifying. This month we feature Sylvania Country Club, one of the most historic clubs in Ohio. It has embraced family values to continue to grow and be a vibrant club. Ohio is famous for itsmany colleges and universities. We highlight many of the larger college golf programs from around the state. If you get the chance, go watch a college golf match. You may just be watching the next Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods. One of our contributors, Rich O’Brien has an excellent piece in this month’s issue about Adaptive Golf Therapy. Rich sustained life- threatening injuries and doctors told him he would never play golf again. He used golf as therapy and returned to playing the game he loves. From his unique perspective, he feels the USGA and other golf organizations should be doing more to help physically challenged individuals use the game to enhance their rehabilitation. There are several items of interest in the Ohio Golf News section this month. One, is of a sad note, Pete Dye, one of the foremost golf architects of the past 50 years is experiencing the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. Several courses around Ohio bear Pete’s signature. He is one of only four golf designers enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame. Our travel writers offer a variety for us to consider this month. Mike May takes us to the Sea Trail Resort on the shores of North Carolina, while David Theoret talks about the Tradition Golf Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Plus Ryan Ballengee extolls the virtues of urban golf at the Winter Park 9. After reading their pieces, I am ready to make a visit. The days are getting longer and warmer, I hope I see you on the Back 9 soon.
