Ohio Golf Journal April 2019
A nnika Sorenstam overcame acute shyness and a fear of winning to become one of the most dominant golfers in recent history. During her short career, she won 72 LPGA Tour titles, 17 European Tour events and ten major championships. She was LPGA Tour Player of theYear ten times and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003. Even though she was at the peak of her career, she decided an even greater goal was to raise a family and left competitive golf in 2008, to do just that. She married Mike McGee in January 2009 and the couple’s first child, Ava was born later that same year. A son, Will, arrived nine weeks early in 2011 and needed intensive care at the Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando. Today both Ava and Will are living proof of the fulfillment of Annika’s greatest goal. She has not gotten completely away from golf, however and is involved in several business ventures. A project dear to her heart, the Annika Foundation conducts junior tournaments for young girls around the world and teaches other life lessons, as well. Back 9 Report TV talked with Annika at the PGA Show in Orlando. Watch the video here: Both of these women excelled on the golf course and have continued to reach new goals off the course, as well. They are a model and inspiration for every young woman.
