GOLF IS BETTER IN FLORIDA FRED ALTVATER You are a Golfaholic if: You have attended the PGA Golf Show for several years, but still look forward to seeing the new equipment and technology every year. Golf is a day spent in a round of strenuous idleness...... I ŬŶŽǁ ƚŚŝƐ ŝƐ ƚŚĞ KŚŝŽ 'ŽůĨ :ŽƵƌŶĂů͕ ďƵƚ ŝŶ :ĂŶƵĂƌLJ ĂŶĚ &ĞďƌƵĂƌLJ ŐŽůĨ ŝƐ ŵƵĐŚ ďĞƩĞƌ enjoyed in sunny and warm Florida, and that’s just what we did. Plus, we were able to meet old friends and collect many new interviews for Back 9 Report TV at the PGA Merchandise Show at the end of January. Traveling around Florida for a few weeks and playing golf has been a great treat. On this year’s tour, Hammock Beach, Innisbrook, Reunion Resort, Naples Beach Hotel & Golf, PGA Village, The Breakers in Palm Beach, and the Palm Beach par 3 provided more golf than this old body could handle. In this issue we review the two Salamander Resorts, Hammock Beach and Innisbrook that have Florida golf covered from Coast to Coast. Mike May also teases us with the Ocean Course at The Breakers Hotel. With great sadness we report the passing of one of the great ladies of golf, Alice Dye. She and her husband, Pete Dye were married one day short of 69 years and along the way managed to raise a family and create a legacy of memorable golf courses around the world. This is golf show season and one of the best golf shows in the state, the Toledo Golf Show will be held February 15-17. Golf travel, equipment and apparel will be available, plus Dan WŽŚů ǁŝůů ďĞ ŽŶ ŚĂŶĚ ƚŽ ŵĞĞƚ ĂƩĞŶĚĞĞƐ ĂŶĚ ƚĂůŬ ŐŽůĨ͘ Twenty Ohio caddies received full-ride scholarships to either Ohio State or Miami in :ĂŶƵĂƌLJ͘ dŚĞ ǀĂŶƐ ^ĐŚŽůĂƌƐ &ŽƵŶĚĂƟŽŶ ĚŽĞƐ ǁŽŶĚĞƌĨƵů ǁŽƌŬ ĂŶĚ ǁĞ ĂƌĞ ŚĂƉƉLJ ƚŽ ƌĞƉŽƌƚ on the former caddies that were rewarded with their scholarships. Lastly during the PGA Show in Orlando, Back 9 Report and Back 9 Report TV received ĂǁĂƌĚƐ ĨƌŽŵ ƚŚĞ /ŶƚĞƌŶĂƟŽŶĂů EĞƚǁŽƌŬ ŽĨ 'ŽůĨ ĨŽƌ KƵƚƐƚĂŶĚŝŶŐ ĐŚŝĞǀĞŵĞŶƚ͘ /ƚ ǁĂƐ ǁŽŶĚĞƌĨƵů ƚŽ ďĞ ƌĞĐŽŐŶŝnjĞĚ ďLJ LJŽƵƌ ƉĞĞƌƐ ĂƐ ĐƌĞĂƟŶŐ ĂŶĚ ƉƌŽĚƵĐŝŶŐ ĞdžĐĞůůĞŶƚ ŐŽůĨ content for our followers.
