BGSU In an effort to cut $2 million from its Athletic Budget, Bowling Green State University announced it is dropping its baseball team immediately. Baseball was the oldest athletic team at the school, beginning in 1915. All sports programs at the school have been tasked to reduce their individual budgets by 25%. University of Akron Last month the University of Akron announced that it was dropping three athletic programs and trimming 23% of the remaining budgets. Men’s Golf, and Cross Country teams, as well as, Women’s Tennis were eliminated. Director of Athletics Larry Williams said, “The overall goal is to make sure that whatever we do, we try to protect the opportunities that are available in college athletics,” Williams said. The total athletic budget cuts are expected to save the school $4.4 million. The university is in the process of cutting $65 million from its $325 million budget through a massive reorganization of academics.
