Ohio Golf Journal June 2020

A better description of each course can be found in “Golf in Cornwall: England’s Best Kept Secret.” Several of these courses were created by well- known architects and players. Five-time OPEN champion James Braid designed both St. Enodoc and the Perranporth. The West Cornwall Golf Club was the home course of four-time major champion ‘Long’ Jim Barnes. The legendary Harry Colt was responsible for creating Trevose Golf & Country Club and St. Mellion International Golf Club has the Nicklaus course designed by the Golden Bear himself. In addition to a description of each course, the booklet contains a number of images from these layouts that are built on a variety of landscapes ranging from seaside links to parkland courses, offering wonderful views of the Cornish countryside. Some of Cornwall’s other sight-seeing ‘hot-spots’ include Land’s End, Lanyon Quoit, St. Michael’s Mount, Minack Open Air Theatre, Trelissick Garden, Tintagel Castle, Truro Cathedral, Eden Project, and the world-famous Jamaica Inn, the focal point of a 1936 novel by author Daphne du Maurier. For walking and outdoor enthusiasts, Cornwall also has miles and miles of seaside walking opportunities. Cornwall isn’t as well known as other U.K. golfing destinations, but no golfer will be disappointed with the quality and quantity of great golf in this southwestern edge of England.
