It includes a driving range and its nine-hole layout is perfect for a family outing, or a leisurely round. The Donald Ross course is a historic masterpiece. It traverses the natural contours of the rolling southern Indianahillside. Bombers can swingaway on the open fairways, but the treachery begins on the greens. Ross created large undulating greens that can confound even the most adept putter. Beware, every putt will have some break and three-putts are always lurking to ruin a scorecard. The Pete Dye Course sits atop the second highest peak in Indiana and provides jaw-dropping vistas for miles around. Don’t dwell on the view too long, Pete Dye has created a difficult course at French Lick. The fairways are normally firm and fast, the rough is deep and gnarly, while the greens’ subtle movement require a deft tough. Dye is a master at creating tension in a golfer when standing on the tee box. This is a course that must be played several times to get the feel for where each shot should be placed and how to accurately putt on the greens. Ohio Golf Journal
