Two Lady Amateurs with Ohio ties garnered invitations to the second annual Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA). Pimnipa Panthong finished T-17 last year at the inaugural ANWA and earned her second invitation in 2020. A senior at Kent State University, she recorded three top-10 finishes last fall for the Golden Flashes. Last summer she advanced to the round of 16 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur and finished T-5 at the MAC Championship, helping the Golden Flashes win their 21st consecutive conference title. Panthong, from Thailand, was a member of the Thai National Team in 2015-16. OSU sophomore, Aneka Seumanutafa advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur before falling to eventual runner-up Albane Valenzuela. (Pic 1B) She’s from Emmitsburg, Maryland, and won the MarylandWomen’s Amateur. She earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year and second-team All-American honors in 2019 after finishing her season with a win at the Westbrook Invitational, a T-5 finish at the Big Ten Championship and a T-7 finish at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional in Washington. She also won the 2017 Junior North & South Championship at Pinehurst. KSU Women Ohio Golf News The Kent State Women’s Golf Team, currently ranked No. 5 in the country, is off to a blistering start to the 2020 Spring Golf Season. They won their fourth tournament of the year by six strokes, at the University of Central Florida Challenge, at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando FL. They backed that up with a sixth-place finish at the Northrup Grumman Regional and added their fifth victory at the Woodlands in Houston for the ICON Invitational hosted by the University of Houston. The team has three more tournaments before they will be looking to capture their 22nd consecutive MAC team title April 24-26 at Silver Lake, Ohio.
