Ohio Golf Journal October 2020

October Brings FALL Golf FRED ALTVATER You are a Golfaholic if: you finish in the dark trying to squeeze in a Fall round of golf in October. They called it Golf, because all the other four-letter words were already taken....... I love to play golf in the Fall!! Slip on a comfortable sweater, or jacket, grab your sticks and head out to your favorite golf course. Most golfers not only enjoy playing the game on a manicured course, but they also appreciate their surroundings. The leaves changing colors in the autumn add a completely new dimension to the game. One downside of Fall golf is that the days are shorter, and we know, in the northern climes, that cold and snow will soon bring an end to our fun and games. Which brings me to my next point. November through March is the time to head to warmer areas of the country for golf. My wife and I are already making our travel arrangements for Florida, Arizona and Southern California. No, COVID-19 will probably not be over, but we have decided not to hide, but take the appropriate precautions and see a few places we haven’t been to yet. Golf resorts are the only sector of the golf industry that is struggling due to COVID-19. Golfers are traveling but are staying closer to home. However, I believe people will venture out later this year and into early next year. Many golf resorts are offering discounted pricing right now that you can take advantage of and as expected, they have protocols in place to keep you safe. Ohio Golfaholics have several fantastic golf resorts within reasonable driving distance. Alabama, West Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia all offer several highly respected golf facilities to please every golfer. October in northern Michigan can also offer some fantastic golf opportunities with the views that will take your breath away. Life is too short! Don’t be afraid to travel. Take the appropriate safety measures but get out there. I hope I see you on the Back 9! Raymond Floyd Ohio Golf Journal
