November 2021 Ohio Golf Journal

Time is Getting Close to Head South for Warmer Golf FRED ALTVATER You are a Golfaholic if: Tight shoulders, an aching back, plus sore knees will not stop you from your weekly skins game and your appointed rounds. To find a man’s true character, play golf with him ............ W e will soon be shoveling snow instead of searching for golf balls as winter is rapidly approaching Ohio. Not to fear, however, great golf awaits from Florida to California in our southern states. Hilton Head Island is the perfect golf getaway for November and early December. This month we feature several of the wonderful golfing opportunities on the “Golf Island.” Golf continues to revel in its renaissance, but for the first time in over a year, we saw the number of rounds played in September decline. We hope this is simply an aberration and not the beginning of a downward trend. In September, we visited another golf mecca, Myrtle Beach. We enjoyed playing the Wizard and Man-O-War at the Mystical Resort. Learn more about this ‘Magical’ place and watch the video with President and CEO, Claude Pardue. He was the perfect host, and we absolutely enjoyed our three days with him. With several Buckeye Snowbirds heading to Florida, I know many will be visiting the Florida Historic Golf Trail. Mike May gives us a few tips on where to find the best breakfast along that golf trail. This summer we had the chance to get to know a former Buckeye, Rachel Rohanna Virgili and learn more about her quest to return to the LPGA via the Symetra Tour. She accomplished her goal and with her three-year-old daughter in hand tells us about being a professional golfer and mom. Our friend from across the pond, Kieran Clark weighs in with words of wisdom on how to refrain from being ‘that guy,’ who no one wants in the foursome. Plus, Ohio colleges wrapped up their Fall seasons and the OHSAA State Tournament was held in October. We have all the results and want to congratulate all the participants that made it to State. BRRRRR, time for these old bones to head for warmer climes. Hope I see you down south on the Back 9. ~ Raymond Floyd Ohio Golf Journal
