January 2022 Ohio Golf Journal

HAPPY NEW YEAR GOLFAHOLICS!! FRED ALTVATER You are a Golfaholic if: You watched the PNC Pro-Am on Friday just to see the return of Tiger Woods playing with his son, Charlie. That next shot should be the most important shot of your life. It should be more important than breathing............ With COVID, Tiger Woods’ accident, a full PGA TOUR schedule, Korda and Ko battling for the top spot in women’s golf, the Americans winning the Ryder Cup in grand fashion and of course, Toledo hosting the Solheim Cup, 2021 was full of great golf. There are a few things we are looking forward to in 2022 and we list them in this issue. Although the numbers are beginning to decrease slightly, golf is still booming worldwide. Due to high demand and shipping delays, equipment manufacturers and golf companies can’t fill the backlog of orders. Some golf shows are scheduled to resume in 2022, after shutting down last year. The Toledo Golf Show will be the only show in Ohio this year. Novi and Grand Rapids in Michigan, as well as, Chicago are also planning to hold golf shows this winter. The grandaddy of them all the PGA Merchandise Show is set to open its doors to golf industry professionals in January. As Ed Travis tells us golf retailers understand the importance of the increasing numbers of women that are coming to the game of golf. New clubs, apparel and marketing campaigns are all aimed at women golfers. As I write this, the snow is coming down outside my office window and I am anxious to head south for palm trees waving, white sandy beaches, green golf courses and warm sunny skies. I hope I see you on the Back 9 of a Florida or South Alabama Golf Course. ~ Tiger Woods’ advice to his son Charlie Ohio Golf Journal
