Mark Scott Jr. Bests Cory Kumpf in Denny Shute Match Play The Denny Shute Memorial Match Play Championship faced 35-degree temperatures and rain, but Mark Scott Jr. defeated his friend, Cory Kumpf 3-2 in the final match at Portage Country Club. Scott is the first PGA Assistant Golf Professional at Canton Brookside Country Club and Kumpf is the Director of Golf. Youngstown Country Club PGA Assistant Golf Professional Jon Jones and Pepper PikeAssistant Golf Professional D.J. Holub also won championships in the Denny Shute Memorial Match Play tournament at Portage Country Club. In the Senior Division, Youngstown Country Club Assistant Professional, Jon Jones won his second Senior Denny Shute Match Play title defeating Rob Moss, Head Professional at Pepper Pike. Jones, who also won the regular division in 2006 and 2007, and Moss have had previous match play battles. Jones defeated Moss for that 2006 title. D.J. Holub, an assistant at the Pepper Pike Club, won his first Shute title by defeating Canterbury Golf Club Director of Instruction Patrick Milkovich, also by a 2-and-1 score, in the Associate Division. Jeff Scohy Named MVGA Mid-Amateur Player of the Year Congratulations to Jeff Scohy who earned Miami Valley Golf Association’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year Honors for the 2022 Season. His 11th Place Finish in the Metropolitan, his Championship in the MVGA Mid-Amateur, his top ten finish in the US MidAm Sectional, making the second cut in the Ohio Amateur and finishing in the top ten in the State Mid-Am provided him 375 points, easily outdistancing others in the Mid-Amateur category by at least 250 points. His award will be presented at the First Event of the 2023 Season, the Spring Better Ball, on Monday, April 24th at NCR CC Ohio Golf Journal
