Toledo Golf Hall of Fame Inducts Two Worthy Honorees Caroline Jarrell Receives John Kretzschmar Award The 2023 induction ceremony for the Toledo Golf Hall of Fame was held at Toledo Country Club in late August. Steve Schaff was inducted posthumously, along with Adam Reny. Reny, Executive Director of the First Tee of Lake Erie, also received the Harbaugh Award, annually given to an individual whose life reflects a commitment beyond his, or her professional work in serving their community, state and nation. Back 9 Report talked with Reny about The First Tee of Lake Erie, their collaboration with Toledo Boys and Girls Clubs and the number of young people they are serving every day at their new facility. Watch the full interview HERE. Ohio State Evans Scholar Caroline Jarrell was honored last month with the John Kretzschmar Award given each year to an outstanding Evans Scholar from Northwest Ohio. Caroline was 10 years old when her father killed her mother and then himself, leaving her and her two siblings without parents. Her grandparents, Dennis and Linda Pawlecki, continued to care for the children. All three of the Jarrell’s found jobs as caddies and have received the Evans Scholarship to attend college. The Evans Scholarship covers full tuition and housing costs for caddies with limited financial means. The scholarship is worth an estimated $125,000 to each recipient. The Evans Scholars Program currently funds college educations for 1,100 students enrolled at 20 universities and has paid out over $410 million in scholarships to deserving former caddies, since its inception in 1930. Amy Lillibridge, Director of Student Success for the Western Golf Association Evans Scholars Foundation, works directly with Evans Scholar recipients and was on hand for the ceremony. The induction ceremony followed the annual Evans Scholarship Golf Outing which raises money for the Evans Scholars Foundation. Evans Scholars awards full-ride college scholarships to deserving caddies. More than 36,000 donors contribute over $14 million annually to the caddie scholarship program.
