July is a very busy month for golfers in Ohio. Amateur and professional tournaments abound in every part of the state, while visitors cram the roadways searching for cooler weather and manicured fairways and greens.
In this issue of Ohio Golf Journal we write about our recent trip to Ireland. We greatly enjoyed the Irish hospitality and wonderful courses on the Erin Isle. We left for home very impressed. We hope you enjoy the section devoted to our trip as much as we enjoyed playing those great Irish courses.
St. Johns Resort in Detroit officially opened their new course, The Cardinal. It is a Ray Hearn masterpiece, plus the par 3 and putting course add to the enjoyment. This is a beautiful property and everyone should stop by and check it out.
This month’s feature destination is Pinehurst. Under the direction of Tom Pashley, it has continued to grow and their long-term arrangement with the USGA assures it will be one of the premier golf destinations for many years to come.
We visited American Dunes for the Intrepid Invitational and urge everyone, not only golfers, to see for yourself the unique memorial Dan Rooney and Jack Nicklaus have built to honor military veterans and first responders.
