ING was created in 1994 to bring golf media and golf industry vendors and manufacturers together to provide the most accurate and timely information for all golfers. The ING Media Awards recognizes the best work from their member’s writing, broadcasting, publishing, producing and photography in a variety of categories.
A three-judge panel reviews the submissions and chooses the Winner and Outstanding Achievers for each category.
During this year’s award ceremony two long-time ING members, who achieved the highest honor possible, entry into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Dennis Walters and Jan Stephenson were recognized for this ultimate honor.
Dennis Walters was an aspiring golf professional, when an unfortunate accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. That didn’t stop him from enjoying golf and over the years, he has impressed thousands of golf fans, plus inspired other physically challenged individuals, with his trick shots and clinics.
When the LPGA Tour was struggling in the 1970’s, Jan Stephenson became the face of the tour and traveled the country to promote the women’s game at every opportunity. Even with the high demand on her time and energy, she found the drive to win 16 LPGA Tour events, including three major championships.
ING award winners also included John Steinbreder from Global Golf Post, Jeff Neumann of Metro Golfer Magazine, Dave Lockhart from Links Video and Chuck Garbedian of “Garbedian on Golf.”
