The Ohio Amateur Championship was held at Sylvania Country Club, near Toledo. Sylvania is an 18-hole championship tree-lined golf course, established in 1916. The Willie Park Jr. design underwent an extensive renovation project in 2015 by J. Drew Rogers and the par 72 maxes out at 6,800 yards.

The Golf Course Superintendents gathered at Sylvania Country Club in 1926 to form the Golf Course Superintendents Assoication of America. The Ohio Amateur Championship has previously been played at Sylvania Country Club in 1954, 1969, 2002.

The defending champion Andrew Bailey, from Shaker Heights, joined an elite group to win consecutive Ohio Amateurs. Arnold Palmer, who also won one of his Ohio Amateurs at Sylvania, Ben Curtis, Jason Kokrak, Frank R. Stranahan, and John Cook also won back-to-back Ohio Amateurs. Bailey won the 2023 Ohio Amateur by four strokes at Canterbury, his home club.
