Bob Sowards capped off another successful tournament in December and banked $5,000 for winning Event No. 6 of the PGA Tournament Series at PGA Golf Club at Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Sowards started the week with a win at the Indian River Grapefruit Pro-Am in Vero Beach, but lost Event No. 5 in a four-way playoff Tuesday.
He fired a five-under 67 on the Ryder Course to finish at 8-under 136.
Sowards, the PGA Head Professional at Kinsale Golf & Fitness Club in Powell, Ohio said,
“I got lucky with the last putt. It’s tough to make putts when it’s windy.”
It was Sowards’ tenth career PGA Tournament Series victory, trying him for fourth on the all-time list with Lonnie Nielsen and Tom Wargo, behind Bruce Zabriski (18), Mike San Filippo (16) and Gene Fieger (15).
Runner-up Rob Corcoran of North Palm Beach said,
“Bob is the best player down here. Every time I get paired with him, I love it because I learn from him. All of us are lucky to get a pairing when we get to watch him play.”
