Bob Sowards from the Kinsale Club in Dublin has had several top finishes in Florida in the past and continued his winning ways with a little help this time from his partner Ben Kern. The duo paired up to win the Senior-Junior Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Sowards holed a bunker shot on the final hole to finish off a 10-under-par 61 to beat the team of Brent Studer and Alex Beach.

Sowards and Kern had previously been partners in the PGA Cup, but it was the first time they had teamed up for this event.

They fired a mundane 67 in the first round, but closed fast with rounds of 62, 58 and 60 to get to 39-under for the four rounds. Studer and Beach were the only team within nine shots of the winners.

Sowards modestly said his partner made the victory possible.

“Ben was the best player on the property the last three days. He shot 64 or 65 on his own ball in the middle rounds. When you’re playing with someone that good, it frees you up.”
