COVID-19 Can’t Stop Golf in Ohio

Even though we are required to wear masks, maintain social distancing and mass gatherings are prohibited, golf seems to be the one thing that is not affected by the pandemic.

Ohio golf courses are packed and outings are being held, while adhering to public safety guidelines. Professional golf has returned, albeit without fans in attendance, but we can still watch it on our televisions.

In fact, Ohio has been at the epicenter of professional golf. The PGA Tour played two events in Columbus. The LPGA restarted their 2020 season with two events in Toledo. The PGA Tour Champions will visit Firestone this month and the Korn Ferry Tour will conduct one of their Final Series events on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University.

The five USGA Alliance Partners in Ohio are conducting a full slate of events in July, August and September. We list the winners that have earned titles already this summer in our August feature.

Golfers like to play different golf courses and the interest in traveling to new courses is once again increasing. This month we feature several courses and resorts within a reasonable driving distance of Ohio.

The Ohio Golf Association inducted three new members into the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame. They are all worthy of the honor and join an illustrious list of names that includes; Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Byron Nelson, Tom Weiskopf, plus many, many more.

Renee Powell is an Ohio treasure and with the recent donation from LPGA*USGA Girl’s Golf Foundation a grant has been made in her name to five Ohio junior golf organizations to help diversity the game.

Three of golf’s major championships, plus the FedEx Cup will be contested over the next couple of months. The PGA Tour is about to HEAT UP!
