Ali Green had been putting off entering Cincinnati’s Tony Blom Metropolitan Amateur Championship, but she made the most of her effort last month, when she nearly knocked off the top-seed, Kyle Schmidt.
The first female to play in the event, qualified for the match play portion of the tournament, although she had to hit it from the same tees as the guys, she took Schmidt to the final hole, before she dumped her second into the water to give him the match.
“It was nerve-wracking,” Green said. “I live for stuff like that though.”
Her competitor Kyle Schimdt said,
“It was a really good match. She came out and made me bring my best stuff.”
Even though she was closed out, she was happy with the way she competed and will take that confidence into the rest of the golf season.
