There is so much more to golf in Georgia than just the Masters at the Augusta National Golf Club, or the Tour Championship at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club.
Four of the best courses to visit on The Georgia Golf Trail are two coastal destinations, plus two mountainous destinations.
The two coastal destinations, Jekyll Island and the Sapelo Hammock Golf Club, are both located in the southeastern section of the Peach State. The two mountainous destinations, Brasstown Valley Resort & Club, plus the Valhalla Golf Club, are located in the northeastern portion of the state.
Georgia Coast
Jekyll Island is the perfect destination for any time of the year. Nothing could be finer than waking up to the sound of waves crashing into the beach at the Courtyard by Marriott, the Residence Inn, or the Holiday Inn Express, all located next to the beautiful Jekyll Island beaches. The multitude of outdoor activities offer something for everyone in the family, bird watching, biking, hiking, swimming, playing tennis, shopping at the Beach Village, learning about turtles at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, taking guided fishing and crabbing expeditions, visiting the many historical structures on Jekyll Island, or playing golf at the Jekyll Island Golf Club on its three golf courses, Pine Lakes, Indian Mound, and Grand Dunes.
Sapelo Hammock: Sapelo Hammock Golf Club has a true old south feel and opened for play in the late 1990’s. The golf course is surrounded by tidal marshes, saw palmettos, and live oak trees, dripping with Spanish moss. This golf course is always in perfect condition and the greens are a reflection of the club’s commitment to excellence.
Georgia Mountains
Brasstown Valley: The Brasstown Valley Resort & Club is the quintessential mountain golf getaway worthy of a same-day replay, as you won’t be able to wait until the next day to play it again. The atmosphere is refreshing, relaxing, and re-energizing, plus the golf course is very well maintained, cleverly designed, and entertaining to play. The views of the surrounding mountains are a distraction as the course winds through preserves, ponds, and streams.
Valhalla: The Valhalla Golf Club was built in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. It has been touted as “Alpine Mountain Golf at its Finest.” The most memorable shot at Valhalla is a downhill tee shot at the par-three 15th hole. The elevated tee descends at least 150 feet. After your round, be sure to spend some exploring the town of Helen with its strong German themed architecture and atmosphere. When walking or driving through Helen, you’ll feel that an Octoberfest-like celebration is taking place or is about to begin. The ideal place to spend the night is the luxurious Valhalla Resort Hotel, which sits adjacent to the Valhalla Golf Club.
The Georgia coastal and mountainous destinations await your arrival.
