Now that its March, the “Florida Swing” is underway and we are moving ever closer to our annual stroll down Magnolia Lane. The Players Championship, held at TPC Sawgrass, is the first non-major-major of the season and Sawgrass is one of the most demanding courses in the world. The island 17th always gets the players, as well as, golf fans total attention.
When the calendar turns to April, golf season begins in the north and The Masters cannot be far behind.
This year Augusta National will be a busy place with the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur to be held the week prior to the Masters, plus the annual Drive, Chip & Putt contest slated for the Sunday prior to the beginning of Masters week, April 11-14.
Ohioans have played a key role at the Masters many times over the years. Jack Nicklaus has won six Green Jackets, more than any other golfer. Two of those wins denied another great Ohio Golfer, Tom Weiskopf of capturing a Masters win for himself. Tom did win an Open Championship for his sole major championship, but he came so close at the Masters.
If you are headed down to Florida for Spring Training, one of the tournaments on the Florida Swing, or just to get in a little golf and a break from the cold weather, check out the Reunion Resort on the south edge of Orlando. It is close to the Disney Parks, includes three signature golf courses, Nicklaus, Palmer and Watson, plus it is a top-shelf destination for the entire family.
As soon as it warms up a bit more in Ohio, you can catch me on the Back 9.
