In a dinner held at the Inverness Club, the Toledo District Golf Association (TDGA) celebrated its Centennial Anniversary by inducting long time TDGA Executive Director, Marianne Reece into the Toledo District Golf Hall of Fame.
The Toledo Golf Hall of Fame was founded in 1999 by Don Kotnik, Reg Jackson and Jim Millon to recognize the area’s golf legends. The Toledo Golf Hall of Fame is housed at the Toledo Country Club and has honored many great Toledo golfers including, Byron Nelson, Frank Stranahan, Herman Lang, S.P. Jermain, Arthur Hills, Peggy Kirk Bell, as well as many more.
Marianne Reece was hired by the TDGA in 1984 and has served as Assistant Director, or Executive Director for 37 years. In addition to her duties for the TDGA, she also was the Executive Secretary for the Great Lakes Senior Golf Association for 21 years and President of the Ohio Senior Women’s Invitational Golf Association for 16 years.
Marianne not only had an exceptional ability to organize and run golf tournaments, she also won a title, or two. She is a two-time Women’s Club Champion at Heather Downs Country Club, won the Women’s Great Lakes Senior Championship three times and continues to compete in Toledo Women’s District Golf Association events.
Rules administration and interpretation is her first love. She is an expert in the Rules of Golf and has served as a Rules Official at many USGA, NCAA and OHSAA championships. She enjoys the challenge of correct golf rules interpretation and is a leading rules authority.
Marianne has been married to her husband, Jim for 55 years. The couple has three sons and six grandchildren. She was a Registered Nurse before, she became “totally addicted to the game of golf.”
Television personality and PGA Professional, Jimmy Hanlin was on hand to emcee the festivities and several past staff members and friends regaled the assembled group with stories of working with Marianne over the years.
Under her guidance the TDGA has prospered and recently merged with the Northern Ohio Golf Association to provide even better golf enjoyment for area golfers.
