Last month Mason Deal fired a smooth 63 in the Toledo Junior Golf Association event at Belmont Country Club.

“It wasn’t luck,” TJGA Official, Jim McGill said. “He’s an excellent golfer. He just got in that zone and everything was going right for him. There was no luck involved, it was skill.”

The soon to be junior at Perrysburg High School was the first athlete in the Northern Lakes League to win state honors in two sports, golf and tennis. When the high school tennis season was cancelled this year, Deal spent the time working on his golf game. He has been playing golf for several years and considers Belmont to be his home golf course.

“My family, and I, go out on the weekends. I use the range and practice facilities every single day. All of that time put in, just came together,”

His round included three birdies and two bogies on the front nine for a 35. He got hot on the back nine carding eight birdies and a lone par at the 16th hole for a 28. His 63 set a new record for the Toledo Junior Golf Association.

Deal summed it up nicely,

“It was a lot of fun out there. Things were just really clicking.”

I think we will hear much more from young Mr. Deal in the future.
