After Ashland’s Max Watson and Dhaivat Pandya, from Dayton, finished the Ohio Amateur tied at three-under par, Watson won the playoff to win the 2021 Ohio Amateur at Avalon Golf & Country Club.
Pandya a senior at Maryland University had made five birdies on the back nine of Avalon Golf Club to get himself into the playoff. Watson made a bogey at the 15th, bounced back with birdies at both 16 and 17 before a double-bogey at the final hole left him tied with Pandya.
Watson, a redshirt freshman at Eastern Michigan University, started the 72nd hole with a two-shot lead and needed only a bogey to win outright, but his ensuing double-bogey made the playoff a necessity.
Bill Williamson, from Cincinnati, missed out on the playoff when he bogeyed both 17 and 18 to finish solo third.
Cade Breitenstine a member of the Kent State Golf Team tied for fourth with 2021 OHSAA Division I State Champion, Jordan Gilikison, who will be joining Breitenstine at KSU, Luke Wells, a junior at Rutgers, and Ken Keller from Youngstown State.
