With entries received from, defending champion Jon Rahm, U.S. Open champion and 2018 Memorial winner, Bryson DeChambeau, Masters champion and 2014 Memorial champion, Hideki Matsuyama, plus Xander Schauffele the field for the 2021 Memorial Tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus has a major feel.
The festivities for this year’s event will kick off June 1st at the redesigned Muirfield Village in Dublin. Unlike last year, a limited number of fans will be allowed to attend. The appropriate safety protocols will be in place for attendees.
“First and foremost, all involved with the Memorial Tournament are thrilled to welcome patrons back this year,” said Tournament Executive Director, Dan Sullivan. “Although we will be limited with respect to the number of attending patrons per day, we are excited to offer to those who attend an opportunity to see the world’s best golfers compete on the newly renovated Muirfield Village Golf Club.”
For those that cannot attend in person, early round coverage will be aired on the Golf Channel with CBS picking up the live feed for Saturday and Sunday’s third and final rounds.
The Memorial Tournament strives to honor the memory of individuals living and deceased who have distinguished themselves in the game of golf, to showcase the world’s best golfers competing on one of the most challenging venues in the world for the enjoyment of spectators, and to benefit Greater Columbus Charities in alliance with the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and numerous other charitable organizations.
The 2021 Memorial Honoree is award-winning golf journalist Tim Rosaforte. He began his writing career in 1977 with the Tampa Times, moved on to the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beach Post. After a stint with Sports Illustrated in the mid-1990’s, he joined Golf World and Golf Digest. Most golf fans will recognize Rosaforte for his insight and analysis on the Golf Channel.
He retired in December 2019 because of health issues and recently was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease
Throughout its history The Memorial Tournament has generated millions of dollars for children’s medical care, plus it has attracted the world’s best golfers. Native son Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara continue to shine a bright light on central Ohio and help children, who need the expert medical attention provided by Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
