Myrtle Beach’s 100 golf courses are ready for players.
The courses are open and 18 of them are lush and green from over seeding on fairways, tees, greens and rough. The other 73 have over seeded everything, but the rough.
Said one long-term Myrtle Beach golfer,
“We had a mild winter and a beautiful March. Everything is in spectacular condition.’’
Hotels are still restricted to short-term rentals and can’t take reservations quite yet. Restaurants are closed, but curb-side pickup and carry outs are readily available. The hope in Myrtle Beach is for things to open back up fully in early May, or mid-May at the latest.
Restrictions now include one person per cart, but people are allowed to walk at many of the Myrtle Beach courses.
Many travel-minded golfers consider Myrtle a home away from home. There are so many great options available, with pricing that will fit most budgets.
The Greg Norman Course at Barefoot Resort is one our Myrtle Beach favorites, along with Tidewater, one of the prettiest courses in the area and offers fantastic dining in the clubhouse. Grande Dunes rounds out the top three, plus we enjoy staying in an oceanfront hotel, particularly the Double Tree by Hilton with its Ocean Blue Restaurant.
Michael Stratz’ spectacular creation at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and its partner course True Blue simply cannot be missed and have to be in everyone’s top five listing of Myrtle Beach area 
courses.
More courses that should be on a Myrtle Beach must-play list, Pine Lakes, which dates back to 1927, the Dunes Club, Pawley’s Plantation, Founder’s Club and TPC Myrtle Beach.
PGA TOUR superstar Dustin Johnson recently made a dramatic expansion to the teaching facility at TPC and offers the most modern teaching and qualified staff in the area.
Myrtle Beach also hosts the biggest tournament in golf with over 3,000 entrants annually. The Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship is a 72-hole amateur tournament offering over $100,000 in prizes, and features the World’s Largest 19th Hole.
The 2020 World Amateur Handicap is scheduled for August 31-September 4. This year’s tournament is expected to be held and entries are being accepted.
