Turkeyfoot Stableford & Skins
Chris Okeson of Cleveland made five birdies on the back nine to storm to victory in the 2019 NEOHgolf.com Turkeyfoot Stableford + Skins on Saturday, April 13.
His back nine run included birdies at the final three holes, earning him a total of 24 points on the day. (The event’s modified Stableford scoring system: 1 point for par, 3 points for birdie, 5 points for eagle. No negative points.)
Okeson’s final birdie at the par-5 18th also earned him a surprising skin, to add even more sweetness to the finish.
Tyler Watkins made the only eagle of the day, on the drivable par-4 fifth hole, but it was unexpected as he was the only member of his group to miss the green. Finishing at the bottom of the steep slope, Watkins holed an 80-yard wedge shot, to a back-left pin, to secure the day’s only eagle skin.
The next event on the 2019 NEOHgolf.com Series schedule is the Skyland Pines Stroke Play in Canton on Sunday, May 19th.
2019 Cleveland Metro Parks Tournament Schedule
The 2019 Cleveland Metroparks Golf tournament calendar has the usual mix of team and individual events, plus several changes were made to add variety to the formats.
The early summer event at Sleepy Hollow on June 1st is now the Sleepy Hollow Junior/Senior Better Ball, where two-player teams will be made up of one player under 50 years of age and one over 50.
All age groups of the 36-hole Senior Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship will now play on the same days at Big Met — on Mon July 8 and Tues July 9 — still in separate age divisions.
To spotlight the beautiful remodel in Broadview Heights, the Seneca Course Championship will be a two-day Greater Cleveland Amateur qualifying event for 2019.
In turn, Big Met will have a one-day Big Met Course Championship on Sunday, July 21 and for the second year, Seneca will host an individual Seneca Stableford on August 17.
In place of the season-ending Tour Championship, Manakiki will host the CMP Cup on October 12. This Ryder Cup type event will involve the top players from the Cleveland Metroparks Player of the Year point standings.
With the addition of the CMP Cup, that makes the Two-Player Fall Scramble at Big Met on September 21 the final event of the season to earn points for the Player of the Year bonus pool.
The 2019 CMG tournament season starts on Saturday, May 4 with the Spring 2-Player Scramble at Manakiki.
