Matt McLish played golf on the West Jefferson golf team even though he is partially paralyzed. In November, he was named WBNS Athlete of the Week.

His story began when he had seizures in the second grade. He was diagnosed with epilepsy caused by a tumor on his brain.

Doctors performed surgery when Matt was in the fifth grade, but complications required four additional procedures. When Matt awoke from the final surgery, the left side of his body was unresponsive.

Two months of physical therapy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital was required to regain his ability to walk, but his left side remained paralyzed.

Even through all of his physical trials, Matt had the desire to return to the golf course and has spent countless hours in a golf simulator learning to swing with just his right hand.

He just completed his senior year in high school and his determination to return to the golf course should serve him well in whatever he chooses to tackle in the future.
