Steve Gangluff started the Ohio Open campaign on a torrid pace at Fox Meadow Country Club, where he fired an 8-under par, 64. He didn’t let his foot off the gas as he carded another great round of 66 in the second round at Weymouth Country Club. Now at 14-under-par, he was in position to hoist the Commodore Perry Ohio Open Trophy at the 98th Davey Tree/Minute Men Ohio Open.
Even though he slipped to a final-round one-over par 73, his three-day total of 13-under par was good enough to win.
Runner-up Nathan Tarter, from Akron, made a strong charge for the championship. He carded an eagle at the 14th and finished just one shot back at 12-under par. The defending Champion, Chase Wilson, from Zanesville, finished third.
The Amateur portion of the Ohio Open ended in a two-way tie for Low Amateur. Benjamin Jones from Strongsville posted scores of 69-72-71 to tie with Alex Weiss from Pickerington. Blake Prince, from Liverpool, finished one stroke behind Jones and Weiss.
