Many perceive the country club model to be outdated. That may be true for some clubs, but Sylvania Country Club is rolling out a new model embracing family values and programing with a broader appeal to today’s culture. In many Toledo households, both spouses are employed, the children are involved in a myriad of activities, but the family still needs a place to slow down and reconnect. Sylvania Country Club is that place. The club has a rich history, but it is also ready to face the future providing a comfortable environment to reconnect the family unit and enjoy outdoor activities together. History The ground on which the club sits today was purchased in 1916 by local businessmen. When S.P. Jermain was consulted about constructing a course, he recommended the group contact Willie Park Jr. Park, two-time British Open Champion, is credited with designing over 170 golf courses in Europe, Canada and the United States. Although actual construction of the course was not completed until after Park’s death in 1925, he was responsible for the original design. Jermain always seemed to BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF GOLÚNG OPERATIONS AND HOSTED THE ÚRST meeting of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America at Sylvania Country Club in 1926. Byron Nelson, who at the time was the Head Professional at Inverness, and the hottest golfer on the planet, won the 1940 Ohio Open held at Sylvania Country Club.
