Freshman Aneka Seumanutafa, making just her second start for the Lady Buckeyes, won the Westbrook Spring Invitational held at Westbrook Village Golf Club outside of Scottsdale, Arizona. Seumanutafa fired a final-round five-under par 67 to collect her first collegiate win.
She is from Emmitsburg, Maryland and carded 17 birdies over the 54-hole event hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
This event had a very strong field with seven of the 16 teams from the BIG Ten, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska and host Wisconsin. The remainder of the field was comprised of Denver, Mississippi State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Tennessee, UC Davis and Washington State.
Coach Therese Hession said of Seumanutafa’s play,
“Aneka had a very solid week managing herself very well and taking advantage of her strength – ball striking. She also had solid wedge play which gave her many birdie opportunities. I’m so happy for her steady performance. I believe there will be many good days ahead.”
Buckeye teammate, senior Niki Schroder, carded five birdies on her way to a final-round 71 to finish tied for ninth position.
