Northern Ohio Section of the PGA held the East-West Assistants Cup Matches at Sand Ridge Golf Club, September 23-24, 2021. The Ryder Cup style competition features the top eight Assistant Club Professionals from the both sides of the Northern Ohio PGA Section.
With an 8-8 tie, the East Team retains the Assistants Cup for the second consecutive year. After a slow start in the fourball matches in the first session, the East Team made a strong comeback in the afternoon foursome matches and square the match after the first day of competition.
The West Team made an early win in singles and appeared to take control, but with two halves in the third and fourth matches and then two wins in the fifth and sixth matches the East team garnered the eight points needed to retain the cup.
This was the 16th playing of the East-West Assistants Ohio Cup and it continues to be a highlight on the section’s calendar.
The East Team consisted of: Captain, Mark Sierak (Barrington GC), Robb Schulze (NOGA). Collin Slattery (The Country Club). Jordan Paolini (Shaker CC), Nick Orr (Canterbury GC) , Patrick Milkovich (Canterbury GC), Joshua Diemer (Chagrin Valley), Kelcey Eberle (Congress Lake Club), Sean McGuire (Pepper Pike Club) and Tyler McHugh (Fox Den GC)
The West Team was Captained by, Eric Morgan (Plum Brook CC) and included, Dustin Roth (Eagle Creek GC), John Powers (BGSU), Darin de Lelys (Westfield CC), Tom Duris (Stone Oak CC), Mark Scott Jr (Brookside CC), Matt McMahon (Lakewood CC), Dylan Champney (Avon Oaks CC) and Chris Knevel (Westwood CC)
